[Eddie Holmes] First experiment to stick the SC2 RBD in a mouse adapted strain. [2021-05-06 20:57:57] [Kristian Andersen] Yeah - very likely, but depends on the purpose of the experiment. [2021-05-06 21:08:05] [Kristian Andersen] And just for reference - here are those beautiful feline CoVs with an identical FCS motif. It's out there... [shared file(s): Screen Shot 2021-05-06 at 9.07.11 PM.png] [2021-05-06 21:21:34] [Eddie Holmes] Yes, I've used this one in talks [2021-05-06 21:21:41] [Kristian Andersen] Sometimes I fucking love science. One of Wade's biggest arguments is that (and this is an oldie but goodie...) the FCS is strange because it has those two CGG codons coding the arginines. Now, take a look at the Feline CoVs - first R is coded by CGG too. Totally sinks that entire argument. [shared file(s): Screen Shot 2021-05-06 at 9.19.12 PM.png] [2021-05-06 21:22:45] [Eddie Holmes] Perfect!! [2021-05-06 21:23:06] [Eddie Holmes] Don't you love nature!! [2021-05-06 21:23:31] [Kristian Andersen] Looking at the CGG codon itself and how often it's used: Common cold CoVs: 4% SARS: 5% SARS2: 3% SARSrCoVs: 2% Totally sinks the argument. [2021-05-06 21:24:32] [Eddie Holmes] Hilarious! [2021-05-06 21:25:14] [Kristian Andersen] And one more - if CGGCGG had been 'strange' in SARS-CoV-2, we would see plenty of synonymous mutations (R has six codons). What do we see if we analyze the ~1.5 million genomes? CGG is found in 99.84% of all sequences at that site. Not exactly unstable. I can go to bed now. I'll spend some time on the rest of his arguments tomorrow. Just because it's fun... [2021-05-06 21:25:56] [Eddie Holmes]
