When Embarek says to "even discuss it or even put it on the table or on the agenda of any meeting or discussion" was a *Mission Impossible,* I strongly suspect that it was not just the Chinese that were pushing back, but membersof his own team. We correctly determined to include it in PO1 against the advice of at least one reviewer. Extremely unlikely sums it up *bordering* on impossible. As @Andrew Rambaut said above the only possibilty is that WIV et al.had SC2 itself or the immediate progenitor. To say this is to say they are pulling off the greatest conspiracy/cover-upin history.

I already have the tinfoil hats swooping in - I missed them. [shared file(s): Screen Shot 2021-02-14 at 10.44.17AM.png]

Well done @Kristian Andersen - !channel let's hit them with some hard science with the cambobat post. Eddie nearly has it cleaned up nicely...

@Eddie Holmes - do you know if this particular email will be made public as part of your FOIA? It reflects well wherewe stood early in our research. [shared file(s): Screen Shot 2021-02-14 at 11.12.37 AM.png]
  5. 2021-02-14 11:28 Edward C. Holmes open PDF p.514
No. The FOI request wanted emails related to the papers. As this is before the paper I didn't include it. But we couldof course release it ourselves if necessary.

@Kristian Andersen Ah, okay. I'll leave this under wraps for now - but once we have the list of emails to be released,we might want to put out a few of them with some context. They'll be noticed, no doubt.
  7. 2021-02-14 11:43 Edward C. Holmes open PDF p.514
Agreed. There's a few that I can also release.

Very interesting figure! [shared file(s): EuNejqhXcAUjMGC.jpeg]

What's wild - two doses of Pfizer leads to greater neutralization against SARS-CoV than B.1.351 according to this figure. That's wild.\
  10. 2021-02-14 12:00 Kristian G. Andersen open PDF p.514
And IMO - highly suggestive of lower overall antigenicity of B.1.351 - i.e., a more general mechanism of (Ab-mediated) immune evasion.
  11. 2021-02-14 12:13 Robert F. Garry open PDF p.514
Kind of surprising to me -P1 takes a hit, but B.1.351 is bad. Does it suggest that the B.1.351 NTD mutations D80A[DorA?). D215G (DouG, Jr?),R246I (RidhI?) may be more problematic than EriK????
  12. 2021-02-14 12:15 Kristian G. Andersen open PDF p.514
Yeah, I was really surprised by that difference as well - I thought they'd be about equal. Need to see the preprint itself so we can see the actual mutations
  13. 2021-02-14 12:15 Kristian G. Andersen open PDF p.514
And B.1.351 is just dead dead - it's pretty scary.
  14. 2021-02-14 12:37 Robert F. Garry open PDF p.514
Note that all of those mutations D80A [DorA?). D215G (DouG, Jr?),R246I (RidhI?) remove a charge (aspartic acid orarginine) - if you scroll back to initial discussions of Doug you'll see references that similar D mutations havecharacterized flu mutations in the past.

Yes, this is coming along nicely. Great work Bob. Let's try and get this sent this week if we can. It's coming along nicely.

    Will do!
  17. 2021-02-14 13:30 Andrew Rambaut open PDF p.515
@Kristian Andersen yeah better to seem to release them as the result of an FOI
  18. 2021-02-14 13:30 Kristian G. Andersen open PDF p.515
@Kristian Andersen Should I maybe release that one, redacting Mike's name? I'm kinda tempted...
  19. 2021-02-14 13:32 Edward C. Holmes open PDF p.515
@Kristian Andersen Let's see how this transpires. It's possible that USYD will reject the request. It's a long process.

I'm such an arrogant twat, but this kind of bullshit really needs to be countered - being an idiot doesn't prove that SARS-CoV-2 came from the lab. Matt and Alina - the perfect couple. [shared file(s): Screen Shot 2021-02-14 at1.55.48 PM.png]
