You can't do those plots independently for each country. The increase of G in Australia simply relfects the increasing number of imports with this mutation.

Nothing from Jeremy. I therefore suspect he won't email anyone.

@Eddie Holmes Exactly - that is the whole problem with using counts of genomes. We have estimated the growth rate for 50-odd independent introductions into the UK. But it isn't a clean result.

@Eddie Holmes I keep telling people this. Drives me crazy.

@Eddie Holmes Yeah, Richard and I brought it up at the conference today, but I'm not quite sure they fully understood what the problem was... I kept saying "your analysis assumes growth from one introduction within the country only - the issue is that you have multiple introductions and you have many more G coming in later"... This can only be done on a tree - there's just no way around it.

Hmmm, okay. Should I email Clare?
  7. 2020-07-30 14:56 Edward C. Holmes open PDF p.123
I'm happy for you to email her.
  8. 2020-07-30 14:57 Kristian G. Andersen open PDF p.123
Alright - I think we should too, so let me email her now.
  9. 2020-07-30 14:57 Edward C. Holmes open PDF p.123
    With me cc'd.

    Done!

Great email! The fight back has begun.

Yeah, I think we all shaped that email pretty well! I definitely wouldn't be picking a fight with this bunch... Just saying. :boom::boxing_glove::man_in_business_suit_levitating:

SLACK_000338 Agreed - let's see what the response from Clare is (good thing I finished a couple more reviews for her at the last minute) - then discuss the counter-punch.

    > And, to borrow a phrase [from DT], "it's a pretty ugly situation that I (obviously) think should be exposed."

I know. How bloody stupid to think that the HKU people did all the sequencing for RMYNO2 (RmYNO1) are were just acknowledged. Makes you wonder what else she has wrong. She's so far down rabbit hole that she's having trouble breathing.
  26. 2020-07-30 15:46 Edward C. Holmes open PDF p.124
I was in a bad mood after Scott's email.
  27. 2020-07-30 15:46 Kristian G. Andersen open PDF p.124
Yeah, she's gone off her rocker by now - it's kinda sad as I still liked her first preprint and I like the fact that somebody keeps digging. But by now it's just stupid stuff.
  28. 2020-07-30 15:46 Edward C. Holmes open PDF p.124
It is sad. She's clearly smart. I was trying not to be overly harsh, but you can't go around naming people like that. For her own good.
