    NO surprise that the indel regions of Spike are all in the surface exposed loops shown here in spheres. These regions probably also define "blocks" that can be exchanged in and out during recombination. [shared file(s): image.png]

    The core structures of the protein - that can be seen here as either beta sheet sandwiches or alpha helices are MUCH less variable. Again no surprise, but sets limits on how much Spike can vary.
