Interesting recombinants - Andrew, do you have an automated way to detect these? We have seen some strange sequences lately.

Was just looking for intermediates of B.1.1.7 - i.e., perhaps involved in the genesis events. Came across a bunch with some of the mutations but not all. The best ones were some that had multiple genomes so were clearlytransmitting - but the cool thing is they were sequenced in different labs so no lab funny business. Probably loads more but these are the low hanging fruit (about 5-6 sets)

Once again Bette got the right answer but is using flawed methods. Her 3-sequence recombination method can't distinguish recombination from convergence.

That's what I thought - and yeah, recombination is absolutely no surprise to anybody who's been following this virus.I can assure you Bette will make full use of being wrongly right, though....

We agree with their observation that both factors contributed to our revised evolutionary rate estimate but continue to stand by our revised estimate and conclusions.
