I'm looking closely at N357 (SC1 coordinates), which is the one SC2 looses (N370 in SC2 coordinates). The glycan at N357 interacts with the N322 glycan on ACE2. What's interesting here - Rhinolophus macrotis _does_ _not_ have N322, unlike most other bats and instead has K322. Now, does the missing N357 glycan in SC2 mean it can live happily in Rhinolophus macrotis? Maybe: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34018203/ [2021-09-24 15:10:41] [Kristian Andersen] (pangolins also don't have that ACE2 glycan...) [2021-09-24 15:34:18] [Eddie Holmes] Interesting observation. R. macrotis has a wide geographic range. [2021-09-28 02:37:00] [Andrew Rambaut] @Kristian Andersen @Robert Garry Given we are doing another dive into the 'quirks' of the genome - I have noticed the 'variable loop' is bracketed by 2 of your labelled restriction sites - EcoR1(1336) and Scal(1538). Just saying... if you wanted to insert an RBD, perhaps you would just insert the variable loop. Of course it is in the Laotian genomes so that would then support the reverse zoonosis hypothesis! [shared file(s): image.png] [2021-09-28 15:10:24] [Kristian Andersen] @Robert Garry - I think you need to spill the beans here... [2021-09-28 15:14:53] [Robert Garry] Someone apparently leaked to CNN that the Chinese increased purchases of PCR equipment in the summer of 2019. Meaning that I guess they were going to release the ~Kracken~ virus on their own ppl about that time. I wasn't too impressed with the data. [shared file(s): image.png] [2021-09-28 15:15:30] [Robert Garry] THat's me plotting the data she gave me... [2021-09-28 15:16:18] [Robert Garry] I'm sure than Sanjay will explain it very well... [2021-09-28 15:18:29] [Kristian Andersen] :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing: [2021-09-28 15:21:29] [Robert Garry] It's really degenerating fast. [2021-09-28 15:22:04] [Eddie Holmes] That's spectacular.
