BARIC: That's how I did it. I don't think there's any standardized process. Sometimes we share reagents and we don't ask anything. But if they're going to use a mouse model, which would be a central point for their paper and for countermeasure development, I thought at least in the beginning, at least one paper we should be an author on. MS. SALAZAR: So is that like what in-kind support is, or a gift? I've seen that referenced a couple of times, where there's a gift of something, and it's acknowledged in a paper. DR. BARIC: I don't know if it's a gift or not. I mean, NIH regulations say that if you publish in scientific journals you need to share reagents with people who ask for them. And for many journals they also require that you share reagents with people who ask for them. She's also been a collaborator who, you know, shared sequences with us before they were published, so it seemed like an appropriate thing to do. MS.
