@Andrew Rambaut And from Bloom's paper: "All studies were conducted at the BSL2 animal facility at the Centre for Comparative Medicine Research, The University of Hong Kong. " Just asking questions, but how does JB know that inoculating a PPP via novel routes into an animal that has a very human like receptor distribution isn't going toselect for a new and more transmissible variant. BSL2 just like a dentist's office according to eDim.

@Andrew Rambaut Haha, this is so unbelievably dumb - I guess once we have a flu outbreak in Seattle we know who to blame...
-
I'm pretty glad this 'investigation' is handled by the intelligence community - only way to do it. They final report will just (hopefully...) regurgitate the evidence as we understand it already. Between us, but the spooks will spend quite a bit of time in sunny San Diego. N'Orleans too?

Do we know anything about this? @Andrew Rambaut? https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2021/05/29/vietnam-hybrid-variant-covid-virus/

Previously highly successful countries are taking off like crazy - Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, and Fiji, so I'm wondering if that's linked to B.1.617.2 in any way.
-
Not yet. Nothing on GISAID. In no particular order of likeliness: B117 with some additional mutations, B16172 with some additional mutations (Nelly?), a contaminated sequencing, mixed infection, recombination
-
Yeah, I don't really give much for the "recombination" aspect of this - but was wondering if this is B.1.617.2. Probablyis.
