Hope it doesn't escape: https://twitter.com/jbloom_lab/status/1398638782740525057

I think we could have a title and a lede for the letter - "Umbrella men and the zoonotic origins of SARS-CoV-2"
-
@Andrew Rambaut Myopia - the Bloomshit has the potential to shut this type of research down. Relman, eDim. Alina all have opined that Jessie should move to the country at least to do this dangerous type of animal passage ofa PPP.
-
@Andrew Rambaut you should - this is bullocks - also not an "exclusive" this crap has been out there for a year.

https://www.cnn.com/2021/05/29/politics/covid-origin-intelligence/index.html Intelligence has nothing - Gupta - full onKool-Aid!
-
@Andrew Rambaut And from Bloom's paper: "All studies were conducted at the BSL2 animal facility at the Centre for Comparative Medicine Research, The University of Hong Kong. " Just asking questions, but how does JB know that inoculating a PPP via novel routes into an animal that has a very human like receptor distribution isn't going toselect for a new and more transmissible variant. BSL2 just like a dentist's office according to eDim.

@Andrew Rambaut Haha, this is so unbelievably dumb - I guess once we have a flu outbreak in Seattle we know who to blame...
-
I'm pretty glad this 'investigation' is handled by the intelligence community - only way to do it. They final report will just (hopefully...) regurgitate the evidence as we understand it already. Between us, but the spooks will spend quite a bit of time in sunny San Diego. N'Orleans too?
-
Not been contacted yet - but good to hear!
-
Do we know anything about this? @Andrew Rambaut? https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2021/05/29/vietnam-hybrid-variant-covid-virus/
-
Previously highly successful countries are taking off like crazy - Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, and Fiji, so I'm wondering if that's linked to B.1.617.2 in any way.
-
Not yet. Nothing on GISAID. In no particular order of likeliness: B117 with some additional mutations, B16172 with some additional mutations (Nelly?), a contaminated sequencing, mixed infection, recombination
-
Yeah, I don't really give much for the "recombination" aspect of this - but was wondering if this is B.1.617.2. Probablyis.
-
Not going to speculate :face_with_raised_eyebrow:
-
Sucks we don't know by now - I have a feeling deep in my veins that someone should set up some better sequencing infrastructure in Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia.
-
Hah. I guess we're on it

Pretty good, this. [shared file(s): Screen Shot 2021-05-29 at 9.21.57 AM.png]
