Good points on the VOC/VOI stuff. I think the WHO proposal is simply about politics, particularly trying to avoid the association with particular places (which the press will totally ignore). The greek names is ok I guess and not afocanuba. All a bit pointless.

I tried, but it made me so angry that I could literally feel my blood pressure begin to rise to dangerous levels so I hadto stop. I just can't read this shit otherwise it will kill me. Baltimore's quote is hilarious. I bet he was on the phone with Jesse.

I'm honestly laughing reading this - it's completely absurd.

@Robert Garry - I think it might be worth reaching out to GVN to see if they want to respond to this. I can't take the lead on something like this, but it's quite serious when a journalist as high profile as Wade (despite him being anidiot) is calling for people to "blame" virologists for the COVID-19 pandemic. It's shocking, frankly.

Perhaps ASM/ASV would be better. Need to avoid the response from the loose-knit community. There's so much hate in Wade's article it's hard to know where to begin.

True. Might also just be better to leave it - it's shockingly hateful. I'm wondering if I should ping Jesse to warn him about this article since his Science commentary will be mixed upwith Wade's article AND Jesse may well not read the Wade piece in detail and not realize what it actually says.
