    This does look like the sort of evolution I saw in cases of virus evolution in immunocompromised hosts. I've never quite understood why you see so much evolution in antigenic proteins in patients should not be mounting animmune response. Very striking in the noros.

    Yes - noros is a good example. You have very long term shedders with basically no symptoms.

    Perhaps it is the weakened immune response rather than an absent one which enhances selection by providing the chance for mutants to arise.
