Question about this part: "As reported in a preliminary analysis of D614G (See COG-UK report #6), a significant association was observed between the age of patients and the probability of the virus carrying D614G, with decreasing odds of carrying the G variant as age increases. However, the basis for this association remains unclear and may also result from sampling bias." Are you guys able to isolate the effect of time here? There has been a general trend towards more recent infections being (heavily) biased towards younger people and since Doug is younger than Dougless I'd kinda expect this to happen. [2020-07-04 09:31:26] [Andrew Rambaut] There are lots of confounding things going on here - the later weeks have lots more Gs (although there are some persistent D lineages) but there was a switch to hospital based testing and a lot of hospital workers were sequenced - tending to be younger. [2020-07-04 09:33:29] [Kristian Andersen] Yeah, that's what I thought - likely explains the shift towards younger people in G. (hence the need to try and control for that confounder, but likely not really possible). [2020-07-04 16:18:05] [Eddie Holmes] What is happening to the US? Extraordinary. [2020-07-04 16:33:16] [Eddie Holmes] http://archive.is/7TCsc [2020-07-04 16:51:24] [Eddie Holmes] You need to read this. I knew about the mine story (it's in a PhD thesis). The key mistake is that they imply that RaTG13/4991 is the direct ancestor of SARS-CoV-2 which it clearly isn't. And if we except that it suggests that the WIV do not have other bat viruses that could have led to SARS-CoV-2 through experimental manipulation. [2020-07-04 17:07:39] [Eddie Holmes] Ebright talking his usual nonsense. People always forget about RmYN02 and why would you passage a virus that you already think might cause human pneumonia? [2020-07-04 21:17:45] [Kristian Andersen] Okay, so four miners got infected with a SARS-like virus in 2012. Maybe. Nothing new there... :face_with_rolling_eyes: [2020-07-04 21:17:59] [Kristian Andersen] Not sure where they have this from [shared file(s): Screen Shot 2020-07-04 at 9.13.08 PM.png] [2020-07-04 21:18:20] [Kristian Andersen] And obviously this is complete bs...
