Both viruses have an added cysteine 5 or 4 amino acids towards the N-term. So, these viruses either have an extra tight cysteine loop in the N-terminal domain or as discussed in channel above have a metal binding domain in the N-terminus. One of @Kristian Andersen long covid patients has an added dicysteine in the N-terminus. Also W152C in B.1.427/429 is an unpaired cysteine which is just not hanging in space so might work with H69, H146 and H245 to bind a metal ion. Cryo EM guys/girls get busy.
