glad to share his mice with us. And so we started to do
the paperwork, but the Chinese government never allowed it
to go through, so the whole thing crashed. So from what I
hear from other researchers, it's not an uncommon problem.
MS. SALAZAR: But that paper had been published.
DR. BARIC: That's correct.
MS. SALAZAR: For years. Five years.
DR. BARIC: Yes. Well, no. Yes. Well, I'm talking
in the range of around 2006 or 2007. I'm giving you an
example of what sort of barriers exist to get samples out
of China.
MS. SALAZAR: But the paper that we're discussing, it
was 2015?
DR. BARIC: It's 2015. That's correct.
MS. SALAZAR: And so I guess it's just the Chinese
government, I hear they monitor people a lot. They
wouldn't have seen that Shi, I mean, Shi was published. It
was public.
DR. BARIC: How would I know? How would I know the
answer to that question?
MS. SALAZAR: Did you have discussions with her in
that time frame about the paper?
DR. BARIC: We certainly shared the preprint of the
paper for her to comment on. And it said clearly in the
