@Kristian Andersen That isn't really the case (I shared an office with Mike at the time). He was originally recruitedby Bill Hamilton recruited because he was hardy (a forest fire-fighter in BC) and could speak a bit of french. Bill was pretty convinced but believed it could and should be tested (by testing the chimps local to the vaccine camp). During the trip he had pretty much convinced Bill that it wasn't correct (because we had been building trees and the common ancestor was way earlier). But then Bill died and Hooper basically wrote Bill's part.

@Kristian Andersen I think he sees it in a similar way - he probably doesn't believe it is true but thinks it can betested. The problem is that it can be tested in the same way he tested the OPV hypothesis - by going out and findingit in the animals. Not by trying to get access to lab books

I think possibly pressing the idea that they are alleging a conspiracy and cover up. Obviously they may have been but there is no evidence of one so they are essentially libelling people. If there was a conspiracy and cover up then getting access to the lab won't help because there was a cover-up.
