This caught my attention: "The lung isolates indicated two mutations, C14554T (nsp13, L372F) and C23525T (spike, H644Y), compared with the genome of SARS-CoV-2-WIV04 (GISAID: EPI_ISL_402124). The mutation at nsp13 was unique compared with published viral sequences identified by online BLAST. The mutation in the spike gene was located at the end of the S1 region of the spike gene. This mutation was identified using BLAST in SARS-CoV-2 genome sequence isolated from a patient from the United States (GenBank: MT163720). The brain isolates exhibited only one mutation, C23525T (H644Y), at the S1 region of the spike gene." Nobody is perfect and they got the amino acid number wrong. No histadine at 644. C23525T is actually H655Y! You'll recognize that as one of the P.1 mutations.

    Definitely think that the Novavax and J&J results are a wake-up call! I think Tony F/Biden are going to get them moving - pretty sure of that. I think we said it more than a month back that *expectations for the vaccines were skyhigh and that needed to be walked back.* if Moderna and Pfizer trials had been run in ZA or Brazil I don't think their results would have been much different than Novavax and J&J. That being said I am starting to take a little more comfort with the 57% number - NO not great - BUT if that comes with enough decrease in virus load to knockR down below 1 even for the variants (DATA PLEASE) then produce the hell out of Novavax and J&J and vaccinate. J&J says they can do a billion doses in a few months. START UPDATING ALL THE VACCINES *NOW*!
