Dear Edwards, It would be appreciated if you would help me with the following questions on viral evolution. I want to work on predicting the next viral crisis, but I don't have a clear picture of my idea on this. Here is the idea: One of the main steps in zoonotic transfer is the ability of an animal virus to enter human respiratory cells. So wecan list all surface proteins of human epithelial cells (in the respiratory tract) and then using molecular docking wepredict (viral) complementary proteins. Viruses with these proteins can potentially enter human cells. By translatingthese proteins into nucleotides, we have a list of potentially dangerous viruses; some of them are not yet evolved. Using modeling we can estimate the required time for evolving these viruses from currently available viruses and finally figure out how far we are from the next viral crisis.1. Is this proposal meaningful scientifically?2. Is it already done?3. Any suggestion and comment on this is appreciated.Sincerely yoursHassan

I think this bit "I don't have a clear picture of my idea on this" in particular rings true.

I will indeed pass it onto Lex. He can patent the workflow.
