The Yunnan pangolin sequence was of low quality. But, even with this it still falls in a very interesting position because it shows this lineage was already present in China (assuming its not from Yunnan customs) and not just imported in from another country. Pretty cool. [2021-01-22 23:08:44] [Eddie Holmes] This tree looks a bit weird - perhaps because of whole genome plus recombination. Will try for some individual gene trees. [2021-01-23 00:41:07] [Eddie Holmes] Some cool alpha CoVs well, closest relative of PEDV identified to date...again goes to show how little we have sampled. [shared file(s): Alpha-CoVs.pptx] [2021-01-23 05:08:05] [Robert Garry] Fascinating Eddie. These new viruses are pure gold. Plenty to sort out. Even with the incomplete sequence the Yunnan Pango CoV different enough but still clustering closely with the GX Pango CoVs to indicate they likely carry these and spread them amongst themselves in the wild. Interesting to see the new bat viruses including HA363 hanging out closest to the GX pango CoVs. Interesting to see CamboBat hanging with the Pango Covs. HA379 may be the most interesting and important. The New Pango Cambobat CoV plus the new Yunnan Bat CoVs looks to me like it will -or at least should - lay to rest the notion that RaTG13, RmYN02, pango CoVs (GD, GX ) were some sort of elaborate fake genome dump hastily contrived in the weeks after the first SC2 cases emerged to cover up the accidental or deliberated release of the GOF/bioweapons research at WIV. [2021-01-23 05:21:20] [Robert Garry] Yes Eddie agree those AlphaCoVs are very cool. Important pathogens - dogs, cats, pigs - a parallel universe to the beta covs. But what I *really* want to see are more of the Fish Nidos. I think those are the going to be very informative. [2021-01-23 05:39:36] [Robert Garry] Let me take a stab at Yuri's question: It says that thoughtful analysis wins out over racism, innuendo, conspiracies, wingnut politics, hidden agendas, fraud, hey look at me antics (Alina), lies, profound misunderstanding of basic/fundamental concepts and - in your case - "blasterbating." Infections with SARS-CoV-2 are now widespread ~in China~, with cases in every ~province~ country in the world. As of ~14 February 2020~ 23 January, 2021, ~64,473~ over 98 million such cases have been confirmed, with ~1,384~ over 2.1 million deaths attributed to the virus. These official case numbers are likely an underestimate because of limited reporting of mild and asymptomatic cases~.~ ~and~ As the virus ~is~ has spread through the human population new variants have arisen that are clearly more
