And so the threat potential and where that exists really is a guess. MS. SALAZAR: And then where does PEDV -- what is PEDV? DR. BARIC: What? MS. SALAZAR: P-E-D-V. DR. BARIC: Oh, porcine epidemic diarrhea virus. MS. SALAZAR: What is that? DR. BARIC: That's a virus that evolved, that emerged in Europe, I don't remember exactly what year. It moved across Europe and got into Asia and Southeast Asia around 2008 or so. It caused massive pandemics in China, and then eventually it arrived here in the United States in 2012. MS. SALAZAR: Did you do any work on that? DR. BARIC: We worked with Linda Saif's group to develop a molecular clone for porcine epidemic diarrhea virus. MS. SALAZAR: And did WIV, that you know of, have that, or were they working on that? DR. BARIC: I would be surprised if they weren't working on it. I don't know if they published on it or not.
