I believe he is a brilliant scientist but don't understand why he stands with the conspiracy makers. I have a couple of things to catch up on. The first and most important is this very annoying request from Jesse Bloom. He is the geneticist/phylogeny person who recently caused trouble over the partial genomes of SARS-CoV-2 that were deleted from a database by a Chinese researcher and he claimed this was done for suspicious reasons. Now he is asking me for sequence data from our joint work on bat-CoVs. The reason for this is that NIH has been asked by journalists to release the full proposal for our China RO1 grant. I've been fighting this for many months, and NIH has also been refusing to release the details. Now journalists took the NIH to court and a judge forced them to release our grant proposals and annual reports for the last 7 years. Jesse Bloom has read the proposal and saw that I promised to share sequence data after 6 months publicly. He is now asking for all the data. I am writing because I know you have spoken and emailed with him and I believe he is the sort of person who will also email you I directly. Please do NOT share agree to this request! If he asks for this data from the NIH grant work, tell him that I am the Principal Investigator and he needs to ask permission from me. I I will respond to him sometime in the next few days and explain to him that all of the bat SARSr-CoV sequences are now uploaded , onto Genbank. He will probably write back and ask for the raw data. I will then ignore his requests. The truth is that EcoHealth Alliance has a policy on how we work in foreign countries. We do this in a way that is respectful of local I laws, and of scientists from the countries. We form partnerships (our alliance), like we have with you that are based on trust and I respect for the country of origin of samples. We believe that samples and data belong to the country that they were collected in, _and we never publish data or share it publicly unless it has been approved by the country of origin. In this case, some has been _ published, and he can download the Genbank references and work with those. Additionally, our grant was terminated and is now _ suspended, so I believe this sort of request is not appropriate. I Cheers, Peter
