Additional guidance on Gates visit from Dr. Collins: Based on Bill's preferences, we are organizing the roundtable as a conversation, rather than series of presentations. In order to make best use of available time, I have identified lead discussants for each agenda topic. I ask that you comment briefly, not to exceed 3 minutes, on one or several select scientific challenges of relevance to the BMGF: 1) the state of current knowledge and 2) the important questions to resolve. The comments would be intended to seed discussion. Unless you have compelling reasons to include powerpoints, I would suggest avoiding those for this informal conversation. I will try to ensure we cover as much of the agenda as feasible in the time available, while keeping flexible and responsive to Bill's interests and the flow of discussion. Could I also ask lead discussants to confer with colleagues identified under their area, to discuss how to share the time allocated to introduce topics? Given Bill's extensive knowledge in global health R&D and scientific savvy, this format should work well and allow us to relate the diverse scope of exciting science surrounding global health.

Inline-Images: image001.png Hi all, I just wanted to note that for the Building 33 visit we have Dr. Collins not only visiting Dr. Barry's lab but also he will be touring the BSL3 facility with Mr. Gates. I just wanted to note (and apologize if you already know) that there are certain clearance steps and training that needs to be done before the BSL3 clearance is given. I did not want to assume that Drs. Fauci and Zoon are already cleared to visit the BSL3. If they have not been cleared, Janette LeBron in Dr. Barry's lab was very helpful in guiding me through the process. Many thanks and apologize if I am stating the obvious. Best wishes, Gretchen
