Topics
Gain-of-function research
Is there a process? I have no idea. All I know is that the Trump administration has formed a committee to come up with final policy recommendations for what is gain-of-function and what's not. And so in the grant, because there was no structure except the existing 2016 structure, we said depending on however those reviews work, we will work within the context of the new structure, because we have no idea of what they're going to say is GOF or not.

Which was kind of what happened before, right, that it was an NIH decision, or was there more interaction previously? DC.Scheduling@LexitasLegal.com
  7. 2026-04-10 09:00 Ralph S. Baric open
You need to put that sentence in context. I'm not sure what you're referring to.
  8. 2026-04-10 09:00 Christina Salazar open
Well, you said that you didn't know how the P3 -- or I can't remember -- the process worked prior, when it was an NIH decision, and you just sent them what you believed, and then they would make the ultimate decision.
  9. 2026-04-10 09:00 Ralph S. Baric open
Well, you would realize it would be a conflict of interest if I participated in such a discussion. We would have a very different conversation here, and the conversation would be do you think it's right that I would be in the committee meeting advocating for my own research. And I don't think that's right.
