What's the feeling about B.1.617: is it genuinely increasing transmissibility or is it just riding the wave of the massive number of cases in India?
-
B.1.617 is split into B.1.617.1 (with E484Q) and B.1.617.2 (without) and both seem to be coming up along with a lotof other stuff. But there are no sequences since the start of April and the sequencing is quite geographicallyhetrogenous. My guess is that most of it is B.1.1.7.

It seems there are a lot of sequences that are not being put on GISAID: https://science.thewire.in/health/variant-first-identified-in-uk-is-behind-delhis-covid-19-surge-ncdc-chief/

That's really interesting.

Weirdly B.1.617.2 is coming up a lot in recent travel related international cases (with connection to India) but very little in Indian GISAID genomes so likely somewhere missing from surveillance.

Let's hope they can get their sequencing together. Indian scientists are submitting a ton of papers to bioRxiv.
