PREDICT ranked viruses likely to spill over... Take a look at their list - let me know if you spot any, hmmmm, (very well) known sequencing artifacts / contaminants. https://spillover.global/ranking-comparison/

Alina - what hypocrisy. That's what you get from spreading lies. Don't get me started on SpillOver - I reviewed this paper and have a counter article in the wings. It's nonsense. Can you tell me which ones you think are dodgy.
  3. 2021-04-05 13:54 Edward C. Holmes open PDF p.675
Many of the virus are from PREDICT. But if I look for these viruses online I see no record of them. For example, they mention Coronavirus PREDICT CoV-117 and Coronavirus PREDICT CoV-73 but I can't find any sequence orpublication.
  4. 2021-04-05 13:55 Kristian G. Andersen open PDF p.676
Yup. And in terms of contaminants - many of these show up frequently, especially things like the Human mastadenoviruses

How is measles on this list?
  6. 2021-04-05 14:06 Edward C. Holmes open PDF p.676
    Yes, it's just garbage.

No Bas-Congo Virus? Maybe I'm missing it. The only "human pathogen" discovered by PREDICT doesn't even make the list. How can that be?

"Labels will be chosen by WHO using lists produced by an algorithm that takes existing words, extracts useful syllables, and recombines them in a combinatorial fashion. The algorithm creates names that are novel (such as Alcanopa, Focanuba or Pomanycus) but will be easier to remember and more practical to use than alphanumerical designations". Easier to remember and more practical.
