She also likes the attention and pushing the "big" people's buttons. She's also very certain of her own abilities evenin areas she has shown to me that she has no aptitude for. Not a real good combination.

Not a perfectly done alignment , but still you can see that RpYN06 spike is VERY close to GD pango spike and very different from RnYN02 spike until you get to the RBD. The RpYN06 RBD is VERY close to RNYN02 spike and very different from GD pango spike After the RBD the three viruses are similar, until you get to the S1/S2 junction where they all differ. Alina is dead wrong about GD pango CoV - scientists like Tommy and Eddie and Nature are not involved in some grand conspiracy to pusht a fake virus.

As for Alina's accusation that by obscuring SC2 origins said scientists are playing a hand in the deaths of millions,my suggestion - go look in the mirror.

It is interesting how little people understand the motivations of scientists - we saw this before with the HIV origins thing - the assumption that we all collude to protect the establishment and/or pharma. The reality is of course that ifwe found evidence of lab origins or whatever we would be straight down to Nature/Science with it. But you would think Alina would know this. Another misunderstanding I have come to realise is that many lay-people believe that research grants are actually personal income for the scientists which is why we don't want to do anything that might jeopardise it.

Another thing about Alina's BS - if she thinks there are integrity issues with the pango papers then fine contact the journals. There is a process for that, which the journals went through. Not getting her way, she escalated, went public and took to accusing people literally of genocide. At my University this would be a violation of ethics rules,violating the rights of Tommy, Eddie and a lot of other people. I would recommend without hesitation that she befired for crap like that - take that attitude and BS somewhere else.

Yes, it's the questioning of the 'integrity' issues that really infuriates me and why I contacted the Broad in the first place. To avoid elevating my blood pressure and an early death I've held off for now. But if she does it again then that will be it. I have to say that I was extremely underwhelmed by the Broad.

I'm very surprised by how passive Broad has been in all of this. Had she done this at our institution, she would have been fired - personal attacks are sackable offenses. Rightly so.

@Kristian Andersen She is also wasting a lot of other people's time driving the false narrative about fake pango /bat CoV sequences and how SC2 emerged perfectly adapted. Not that other idiots haven't and wouldn't have carried that water, but she brings the imprimatur of the Broad - and by their passivity - tacit approval.

Got this from a friend at EgoHealth. Very interesting. Obviously keep to yourselves: "Apparently the WHO team spent a fair bit of time matching landmarks from your photos to the market when they visited, and the drain grates that the raccoon dogs were sitting on top of in your pictures correspond to the places in the market where they found the lowest CoV Ct values (all of this is still confidential but will be in the report I think). Seems reasonable that those guys were infected and shedding virus in their feces, as Koopmans thought it was highly unlikely that that level ofCoV RNA would be in those grates from human sources. Unfortunately the Chinese didn't do any source tracing ofany mammals from the market originally (I think they're still claiming it was seafood only), and now all those farms are apparently coat hanger factories (?), so I don't think that they'll be able to really test that hypothesis. The WHO team also found frozen raccoon dog/ferret badger (they're unsure and I think are waiting for barcoding) carcassesstill at the market, so it's possible that some of the frozen food detections they've had could have come from the same source farm or processing plant as the live animals."
