Ah Laura.. [shared file(s): image.png]

Your silly mutation nicknames are too white and you didn't consult the ICTV!
-
Lol

She's a plant biologist and TED fellow Andrew - you're never gonna win.
-
I know her twitter rants well.
-
I don't know her - but I was just on a three hour meeting with Bette Korber so I can't take any more ranting today.:firecracker:
-
I get the sense Aine's got this one down though. [shared file(s): Screen Shot 2021-02-17 at 2.17.23 PM.png]
-
Ooh yours must have been the call she had to leave mine to go to.
-
(Korber, I mean)
-
Laura seems nice. Good sense of humor. Grounded. Knows what's important. Doesn't sweat the small stuff. Focused.
-
That totally sums her up.
-
Oli, Nick and I were talking to Korber about your recombination problem in California
-
She would give zero information - what does she have?
-
Yup.
-
She told us how you find recombination
-
Basically they have lots of recurrent mutations (I say, they have - I mean they have found in other people's data). Most are clearly just homoplasies being brought up by epistatic effects. Their only argument is that they are rare globally.
-
She showed one picture that looked like a convincing case because it had 2 parents and good tracts of recombination (i.e., the entire spike) but was either a lab artifact, or a coinfected individual with a messed upconsensus or an actual unusual recombination. None of it matters though - clearly recombination is massively important to within host evolution and vanishingly unimportant to population evolution except in so far as the first leads to the second
-
As for Laura Boykin - idiotic nonsense. I'm not sure how B.1.1.7 counts as white.
-
I think she is confused.
-
@Robert Garry I've gone through the text again Bob - looks good. I'm happy with the cuts.
-
THANKS Eddie _ I'll clean it up a bit more for Andrew and Kristian...
-
@Andrew Rambaut Very clear... Glad she had a chance to teach you how to do it properly.
