[2020-11-02 13:07:35] [Eddie Holmes] Interesting article indeed. Not a good look for the WHO nor George Gao really. Hilarious that Ian is so desperate to get into the action yet is so peripheral. Most of all, it is amazing that we really no nothing concrete about those market samples. Not a good look. [2020-11-02 13:54:03] [Andrew Rambaut] [thread - ID: 2020-11-02 11:36:51] @Eddie Holmes The tinfoil brigade are going to love this! [2020-11-02 14:57:26] [Eddie Holmes] [thread - ID: 2020-11-02 11:36:51] @Eddie Holmes Indeed, but it's the best outcome. Hopefully EBI can confirm if necessary. [2020-11-02 15:29:16] [Eddie Holmes] [thread - ID: 2020-11-02 11:36:51] @Eddie Holmes And let's face, the tinfoil hat brigade would moan whatever the solution. [2020-11-04 09:15:26] [Andrew Rambaut] Where's a Dane when you need him to translate something: https://www.dr.dk/nyheder/indland/statens-serum-institut-mink-med-muteret-virus-kan-oedelaegge-effekten-af-vacci ne#!/ [2020-11-04 09:15:51] [Andrew Rambaut] > Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen announce that all mink at all mink farms in Denmark must be killed. Coronavirus have mutated in mink and that could ruin the effect of a future Covid19 vaccine. [2020-11-04 09:16:03] [Andrew Rambaut] Sounds like bollocks to me. [2020-11-04 12:44:53] [Eddie Holmes] Yup, sounds like another rash use of the word 'mutation'. [2020-11-04 14:29:13] [Andrew Rambaut] Actually, I have some inside information from WHO (please keep confidential): > We have tested a variant with four simultaneous changes in the spike protein (Amino acid changes: 69del, Y453F, I692V, M1229I). This variant has been found in five minkfarms and also in humans in the surrounding community. A complete GISAID upload of all Danish Sars-CoV-2 sequences of human origin is planned for the end of week 45. We have cultured this virus from a human patient and evaluated whether it was sensitive to neutralizing antibodies (antisera) from a collection of sera from convalescent COVID-19 patients. We found that this virus showed less sensitivity (resistance) for neutralizing antibodies from persons with previous COVID-19 infection. [2020-11-04 14:29:35] [Andrew Rambaut] Why they are not releasing this information and the data I don't know. [2020-11-04 14:53:52]
