, which also has links NIH Big Read The NIH Big Read was created by the NIH Library and FAES to foster collaboration and community at NIH around a topic of interest to the NIH community through reading a book that is related to the work of NIH. The program also encourages interaction between the author of the book and the NIH community as a way of exploring and enriching the overall community's understanding of the topic(s) in the selected book. The NIH Big Read begins with an announcement to engage the NIH community and encourage participation in small-group discussions over the course of several weeks. The book is available for NIH staff to read through the OverDrive platform, or through the FAES bookstore. The book discussions lead up to a final event during which the author and Dr. Collins talk about themes in the book, on stage, in an interview-style setting. The talk includes selected questions forwarded from the book discussion groups as a way of incorporating the community in the conversation. Following the on-stage discussion, FAES hosts a meet and greet reception with the author, during which NIH staff have an opportunity to meet the author. The whole program takes place over approximately 6 weeks. The final event is scheduled as a one-hour event in Masur Auditorium, followed by a one-hour reception and book signing. Optional lunch, tours of NIH and other activities can be included before or after the main event. For additional information about the program, see the NIH Big Read 2019 webpage, which also has links to the NIH Big Read 2018 and 2017 programs.
