660,000/34,000; les, Renate ORS) [E] 3, Greg \NTH/NIAID) [E] tover(@nih.gov> yle smear April 17, 2020 - Global - 2,000,000/132,000; USA -660,000/34,000; Did briefing with the VP and Deb and Steve Hahn and BobRedfield and Brett Giroir to the Dem Senate Caucus led by Chuck Schummer. Very hostile. Kept coming at us abut testing and how inadequate it is. I have been telling the TF that this is an issue that will not go away. Angus King (Maine) tee-ed off on VP about the fact that we are unprepared. Patty Murray was her old self wanting a testing plan, etc. etc. This rompted us to devope the entire TF to testing and decided to do a presser. I took over and chided the group that we cannot be telling people that we have more test and materials than we need since this would be insulting to them. We cannot blame anyone and we must admit that the supply (which we claim is adequate) is not "connected to" nor does it reach the people who are demanding it. Bottom line is that they are not getting what they want and ewe need to fix the fact that it really is a distribution problem. Also, Senators (and the press and the public) are under the impression that we should test everyone for the virus. Hope Hicks, Katie Miller, the VP came over to me qnd said and indicated by their expression "Thank God that you are in the room!" We explained this at the presser Another indication of the craziness in the world. This came out today: From: Billet, Courtney (NIH/NIAID) [E] Sent: Friday, April 17, 2020 1:32 PM To: Burklow, John (NIH/OD) [E] <BurklowJ@OD.NIH.GOV>; Myles, Renate (NIH/OD) [E] <mylesr@mail.nih.gov>; Mcgraw, Michael (NIH/OD/ORS) [E] <mcgrawm@ors.od.nih.gov> Cc: Harper, Jill (NIH/NIAID) [E] <JHarper@niaid.nih.gov>; Folkers, Greg (NIH/NIAID) [E] <GFOLKERS@niaid.nih.gov>; Conrad, Patricia (NIH/NIAID) [E] <conradpa@niaid.nih.gov>; Routh, Jennifer (NIH/NIAID) [E] <jennifer.routh@nih.gov>; Stover, Kathy (NIH/NIAID) [E] <kathy.stover@nih.gov> Subject: FW: Media request - Fauci sexual assault allegation / possible smear Just when you thought life couldn't get any crazier, we are now getting media inquiries about this "press release" from a firm we can find no trace of online. The address they provide for their "press conference" is the Chinese Embassy. I have a call in to Dr. Fauci to let him know about this, but he is at the White House and not answering his cell phone. Lt. McGraw, can you help get to the bottom of who these people are? There is a phone number at the very bottom. Should we also be sending this to OIG?
