The pandemic brought into sharp focus his contribution to this and other serious health crises during his career. The reasons for his visibility are cogently explained at pandemic-response-150596 It is not fair to say that he received the $1 million prize "as a payoff from Israel". The Dan David Foundation is a private charitable organization similar in concept to the organization that awards the Nobel prizes. There are 12 members on the board of the Dan David Foundation. Four seem to be Israeli, including Ariel David (son of the founder) and Ariel Porat (president of Tel Aviv University). Four seem to be French, including Emmanuel Roman who spent 18 years at Goldman Sachs. There were 4 members on the Review Committee who evaluated potential recipients of the prize that Dr. Fauci received.
