These funds have come from NIAID, the Rockefeller Foundation and the US Embassy. USAID also provided a small amount of support for this program in its early years. In all cases, resources helped support both infrastructure and program costs. Considerable investment has been made by the FMPOS itself, but we have no way to document that. In addition, we have invested in essential IT infrastructure to support multiple projects and ICER operations. Since 2000, this investment has been about $1.7 M. This includes maintenance, services, hardware, software, local human capital investment, and travel. This figure does not capture elements of the Mali ICER IT system that were part of services and systems provided to the entire ICER network. Obviously, in all these expenditure estimates, there is no capture of NIH staff costs. In addition, utilizing and sustaining this infrastructure, NIAID has expended about $141 M over the last 21 years to support research projects and programs at the Mali ICER - $57 K in extramural grants and contracts and $84 K in intramural research project support. In addition, NIMH, FIC and the OD also have funded ICER-associated research projects. This has been only a few million dollars, but still has been significant.
