Tony: This is the analysis I mentioned the other day.
When we get together, I will explain its relevance, as I
see it, to planning for the future.

To illustrate
the level of social
media activity relating
to Dr. Fauci relative to other topics and news cycles, we created the image below, which shows the total number of mentions
of the
keywords "fauci", "Disney", 'pizza', "pepsi" or "Celtics" on Twitter in the U.S. from June 1 to July 1, 2022.
We can see that on the average day, there are 10-15.000 mentions of 'fauci", on par with conversations mentioning Pepsi and are about half of those mentioning "pizza". Disney
is another
entity that generates consistent conversation but has also recently drawn significant attention from right-wing activists.
We can see that there is an overall larger volume of activity associated with Disney, but that the news cycle around Dr. Fauci's Covid-19 infection drove a spike in activity similar to what Disney
experiences
on a daily basis (as well as what the Boston Celtics saw during their NBA Playoff performance). Significant global keywords like "Ukraine" drove about six million mentions
during
the same time period, or about 230.000 mentions
per day. "Bill Gates" mentions drove about 8,000 mentions per day or about 260.000 during this time period.
INSIGHT
The keyword "Fauci"
can generate as much social media activity on any given day as major brands or pop culture events.

To more deeply understand the activity around Dr. Fauci on
Twitter, we performed a network analysis using Al models
designed to detect propaganda-like behawor and the
presence of bots
The image at right is a network graph visualizing all English
mentions of "Fauci" and "monkeypox" for the time period of
May 31*to June 14, 2022
The circles ("nodes") represent individual users (e.g
@SallySmith) or concepts (e.g. #vaccines).
The lines
between them ("edges") represent interactions between
nodes (likes, retweets, replies, etc)
The red shading of the graphic displays the intensity
of
"anomalous behavior for a given user or post; this
measures the degree of propaganda-like or bot- like
behavior present (e.g. overuse of hashtags, excessive
posting on the same subject, etc). Darker red signifies
more manipulative behavior
ANALYSIS
While Dr. Fauci is frequently the target of mainstream rightwing news organizations, a loosely coordinated network of
provocateurs and conspiracy theorists with significant
followings are using his name and general sentiment
against him to grab attention for themselves by stoking
outrage, day in and day out
For example, some of these actors (top right of the graph)
are actively worked to discredit Dr. Fauci by referencing that
the NIAID funded research into a monkey pox vaccine years
ago, without noting that monkeypox is a disease that has
been around since the 1950s
We also observed connections being sown between Dr
Fauci and Bill Gates within the monkeypox conversation
indicating that there's a concerted effort to connect him with
other conspiracy theories discussed in the cloud of activity
at the bottom left of the graph

the
January § hearings, and Tweets "breaking news" with
an anti-Biden spin. He recently blamed Biden for
inflation, vaccine mandates, and flight cancellations
