Sept. 16, 2022 I have always thought that Bob redfield was somewhat of a bizarre personality and his history dating back to his time at Walter Reed has proven that. But I didn't think that he was as crazy as he is now manifested by an interview he gave with a totally weird person Paul Thacker in which he condemned Francis Collins and me I think we're the first ones beginning this award for misleading the American public and for lying to the American public and even accusing me of lying under oath at a congressional hearing.It is truly unfortunate that as a former CDC director he has stooped so low as to get into the conspiracy theory space: Former CDC Director Robert Redfield On Inside Battles WithAnthony Fauci, And Why Classified Information Will Point to aLab Accident in Wuhan ROBERT REDFIELD: DICHRON INTERVIEW Paul D. Thacker Sep 15 -------- The Lancet report on COVID by a panel chaired by Jeffrey Sachs has recently come out and inappropriately equated the possibility of a lab leak with that of a natural occurrence of the virus. There has been an uproar among the biology community against Jeff who apparently removed from the panel anyone who felt strongly about the natural occurrence and actually went on a podcast with Robert F Kennedy, Jr talking about how the lab leak was likely the cause even though there is absolutely no evidence to indicate this. Prominent virologists including Angela Rasmussen and Peter Hotez have come out very strongly condemning Jeff saying that he should have been removed as chair on the basis of his strong prejudice and certainly on the basis of his allying himself with Robert F Kennedy junior. This is another example I believe of Richard Horton the editor of Lancet trying to get involved in controversial issues which bring attention to his journal. This is not the first time he has done this: The Telegraph: Major Covid report suggests virus could have leaked from a US lab The Lancet's paper said it is 'feasible' that Sars-Cov-2 emerged from a natural spillover or a lab incident, but elements provoke backlash *****Truly an insane piece by Bob Redfield: Former CDC Director Robert Red PRESS: "Breaking Med" online interview with Michael Smith;

    Sept. 13, 2022 Florida physicians defending me in the Gainesville Sun: Dr. Anthony Fauci deserves better from Gov. Ron DeSantis than insulting comments Bruce Stechmiller and more than 30 others Guest columnists Statement made during the last NIAID Council meeting of mine as NIAID Director: On behalf of the AIDS Research Advisory Committee, ARAC, I want to take a moment to reflect, as we open the September 2022 meeting, which will be the last ARAC meeting under the NIAID leadership of Dr. Anthony Fauci. As you all know, Dr. Fauci has led NIAID since 1984, and it is impossible to capture the enormity of his contributions. His extraordinary leadership of NIAID, and through it the Division of AIDS, has been unparalleled. His ability to see the world, and make it better, has been astonishing: from the most fundamental scientific questions, to the most difficult clinical problems of our lifetimes, to the many public health challenges the world has faced over the past 40 years, in HIV and so many infectious and other diseases. These efforts have had profound and life-saving effects, on individuals, communities, and the entire world. We thank him, on behalf of people everywhere, and we look forward to what will no doubt be continued extraordinary accomplishments as he opens a new chapter. Thank you Dr. Anthony ('Tony') Fauci.

    Sept. 14, 2022 Important day! Today at 10:00 AM I testified before the Senate HELP committee chaired by Sen. Patti Murray with Richard Burr as Ranking minority. It will be likely the last time that I will be testifying before the United States Congress in my position as the director of NIAID. Rand Paul was his usual self asking hostile questions of me saying that I am denying the existence of natural immunity. He showed a C-SPAN film clip of me taken out of context where I say that a person who was infected with flu did not need a vaccination - I then held up a clip from Reuters "Fack-Checker" saying that Rand Paul was taking me out of context: Fact Check- Fauci's 2004 comments do not contradict his pandemic stance By Reuters Fact Check He then accused me of not providing the amount of royalties that people on advisory committees get. I pointed out to him that I have nothing to do with the VRPAC or ACIP. All in all, he made a fool of himself and threatened to haul me before committee's under oath if GOP takes over the Senate.

    Sept. 17, 2022 Chris and I had dinner over Ellen Sigal's home together with Diana DeGette and her husband Judge Lino Lipinsky. It was an interesting conversation and part of the discussion was the fact that the GOP will probably haul me before their oversight committees and make a spectacle of the Wuhan, gain of function situation. Diana is the current Chair of the Energy and Commerce oversight committee and if the GOP wins the House, she will be the ranking minority member. This is very good for me but it doesn't completely shield me from there attacks which I need to be prepared for that will come either in the House with Jim Jordan et al or in the Senate with Rand Paul et al. They will likely treat me like they treated Hillary Clinton during the Bengazi Hearings.

    Sept. 18, 2022 - Met John Podesta and Leslie Dach at an award ceremony for me at Georgetown Prep where Chris and I received the Pedro Arrupe, SJ award for Exemplary Public Service. They were both aware that I will be attacked by the GOP after the election and I will likely need legal assistance. John offered to put together a program to develop a fund to pay my legal bills.

    Sept. 19, 2022 I had to help clean up a bit of a mess today when the President casually said on a "60 Minutes" interview that the pandemic was over. I had a number of press today and certainly I got asked the question particularly on NPR about how this relates to the fact that all of us have been saying that we are still in the middle of a pandemic and 400 people are dying each day. I gave the explanation that it really is a matter of semantics and that the president was referring to the fact that the fulminant stage of the outbreak is no longer present since we were experiencing 800,000 cases a day and over 3000 deaths per day several months ago and the situation is very different now. However, I did emphasize that we are still in the middle of a pandemic. It is likely that there will be another wave of infections in November: Variant report 2022-09-14 A variant wave is likely to start in at most 3 months The BA.2.75 sublineage BA.2.75.2 (S:346T, S:486S, S:1119N) currently doubles in share every week (+80120%). It made up between 0.1 and 0.5% in samples from two weeks ago in Europe (in Asia, North America and Oceania, the share is higher at between 0.5-5%). • Global Cov-Spectrum query • Europe Cov-Spectrum query If this growth trend continues, this variant will dominate in about two months. At this point, the growth advantage would manifest in increased overall growth in incidence and a variant wave would start around November - on top of the expected seasonal acceleration of transmission. The growth advantage over resident BA.2 or BA.5 lineages is of the same order of magnitude as was the case when BA.5 displaced BA.2, which was sufficient to cause a summer wave. Currently, BA.2.75.2 is the fastest growing lineage with more than 350 sequences available. The rest of this report will focus on other lineages that may end up growing faster than BA.2.75. I had a very enjoyable interview for 45 minutes at the Atlantic Festival held at the new Wharf section of DC right off Main St. It was a very successful interview with an extraordinarily enthusiastic crowd then gave me the opportunity to explain in detail some of the nuanced issues associated with COVID and the interviewer Ross Anderson (Deputy Editor of The Atlantic also asked a lot about my history dating back to my very early years at NIH.
