September 20, 2020 (Sunday) Global USA Yet again, I am not allowed on Sunday Shows while Brett Giroir is doing SOTU. Signs in NYC subway stations: Lot of discussion about the transverse myelitis in a volunteer in the UK Chimp Ad Oxford trial. May have had a prior case, but was designated as multiple sclerosis. Trial re-started in UK; not yet in USA (the AZ trial) 20 September 2020 1.This week's low in deaths is nearly 200 more than the last 2 week lows 350-440 range to now 650 2.As we learned in May and June emergency room visits are a lagging indicator -- often more than a week behind increases in test positivity 3.Cases and deaths both increasing this week -- the considerable progress is stalling or reversing in the large states -- slides 4-5 4. Sept. 20, 2020 • Typical media distortions. Vivek Murthy was on MSNBC with Morning Joe and they showed a clip of POTUS saying that the pandemic was "over" and then they showed immediately after a short clip of "part" of my interview with Steve Morrison in a CSIS podcast of my saying: FAUCI [clip]: "we are not where we need to be if we're going to be able to quote live with the virus because we know we're not going to eradicate it. we only did that with one virus, which is smallpox, and that was very different. because smallpox doesn't change from year to year or decade to decade or even from century to century." As expected this created somewhat of a disturbance with the meme being pitting me against the president of the United states. Rather typical press nonsense. The POTUS is getting pushback and criticism in that he has inadvertently undermined out attempts to get more money from the Congress for COVID since the GOP will now quote him as saying the pandemic is "Over". I have been out there explaining that the POTUS meant that the "fulminant" nature of COVID when we were getting 3 to 4000 deaths per day is now behind us, whereas now even though we are at an acceptably high level of three to 400 deaths per day, it is still much better than it was many months ago. It is as good an explanation as he presentation to Cliff Lane of the ith Alex Cohen 'ational Journal about my relationship with Congress any to get us back on track with the world realizing that we still have to take COVID very seriously with the current toll per day as well as the possibility that we might wind up getting another variant such as BA.2.75.2 in November. Anthony S. Fauci
SEPTEMBER 22, 2020 9:34 PM EDT A s the COVID-19 pandemic began to spread to the U.S., there was one person millions of Americans immediately knew we could turn to for guidance: Dr. Anthony Fauci. As director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Dr. Fauci has advised six Presidents over 36 years. When COVID-19 reared its ugly head, he was among the first to step forward with facts and only facts. Dr. Fauci doesn't sugarcoat his words and refuses to be pressured by politicians. He delivers the truth, as difficult as it may be to hear, earnestly and with one goal: to save lives. His courage and candor have earned our trust. We are all fortunate to have a man of his wisdom, experience and integrity to help us navigate these difficult waters. Kimmel is the host and an executive producer of Jimmy Kimmel Live! September 23, 2020 - Global - 31,400,000/966,666; USA - 6,900,000/200,000 1.Cases continue increases week over week -- as noted yesterday mortality should decline as the original red states (CA, TX, FL, GA) mortality declines and this is beginning and this weeks high less than less week which should be the beginning of mortality declines if we can ensure containment of community spread in the heartland and college campus to community spread 2.Testing has stabilized and increasing but we still have substantial underreporting of Ag tests and health departments are adding Ag testing in bulk resulting in the case spikes this week. This should improve with a policy change related to Ag test reporting 3.Positivity at 10% or close to 10% in most of the Heartland and continues to increase -- heartland is highlighted in slides 14 -- 27 -- most except AR in unmitigated community spread 4,We are laser focus on those with increasing cases and high community spread and increasing mitigation in these states as well ensuring universities are focused on mitigating campus to community spread -- minimal evidence of this to date For Time Magazine 100 Most Influential People, I was ranked #1 among the "Leaders" category THE 100 MOST INFLUENTIAL PEOPLE OF 2020 BACK TO HOME Anthony Fauci Stefan Ruiz for TIME BY JIMMY KIMMEL

September 26, 2020 - Major conflict between Deb and Atlas. See below with Deb's daily report. Atlas says that we do not need to test for asymptomatics since the only thing that counts is preventing vulnerable people from dying. He does not see the connection between asymptomatic young people (without hospitalization and deaths rising → older and vulnerable (with later hospitalization and deaths rising). We are heading to a major clash between deb/me/Bob versus Atlas 26 September 2020 1.Cases continue to increase in the Heartland and the upper Midwest and Northwest without any evidence of containment --no state outside of MN, WI, ND is adequately mitigating their community spread -- hospitalizations are rising across these states and fatalities will continue to increase across these regions 2.Hospital admissions for confirmed cases are rising at the National level driven by the Heartland and the North West -- ND, SD, MT, UT (significant increase in Tribal Nation infections in MT which will drive mortality and must be mitigated. Call with MT on Thursday was more directed at Administration rather than aggressive public health mitigation of community spread in Billings and among the Tribal Nations -- we need to try to get to UT (Provo) and MT 3,Most concerning is the rising confirmed hospitalizations in over 70 yo the most at risk for poor outcomes largely driven by community spread several weeks ago when we experience the large decline in testing and inability to see the early spread among younger groups and ability to contain the community spread before impacting the elderly. 4.\t will be key to return to the Heartland, WI, MN as well as UT and MT when possible to do a deep dive into the data and provide clear mitigation recommendations 5.1 have included the ILI data as requested. Slides 4-6. Because much of ILI is modelled a seen here it is insensitive as an early indicator, insensitive to rising hospitalizations or predictive of rising mortality.
