For the smaller group only...I've heard there are MERS-like viruses in the pangolins. I assume these have a furin cleavage site. Trying to find out what the sequence is.

Ohhh, interesting. I'm so confused about this pangolin stuff - did we always know they were full of CoVs? To me it's something we only found out recently, but I'm not that well-read in this space.

Not only did we know NOTHING about pangolin CoVs until the end of 2019 but we knew NOTHING about pangolin viruses. Period. Now it turns about they are balls of scales full of viruses. The narrative that these are just transientspillover infections is clearly wrong. They can be reservoirs. Whether these MERS-like viruses are of any importance is unclear, but it does show that pangolins are more important in the ecology of these viruses than wethought.

worth doing a closer look - HKU5 CAIPPTTSTRFRRATSGVSDV has a maximum FCS and its on the same branch as MERS CALPDTPSTLTPRSVRSVPGEM. HKU4 also there cavppvstfrs ysasqfqlav, but looking a lot like RmYN02 - so I guess we need asshat Yuri to help with the alignment.
