They are so dishonest - purposefully misquoting Shi. [shared file(s): image.png, image.png]
-
Of course, it would not matter what Shi said - they would claim victory anyway.

Not sure what happened here - WashPost. [shared file(s): Where Are We in Finding the Coronavirus's Origin_ - The Washington Post.pdf]

I occurred to me that while we live in a country with freedom of speech it's not clear to me how the Metzl feels that itwas appropriate to hijack Shi's scientific talk to promote his future books and speaking engagements.

Military research. So idiotic. The reality is that the only shot the west had at looking at WIV was the WHO trip and that was a one off. People like the WaPo can moan all they like but there's no way China will let another team in. All this posturing may sell books but it's game over when it comes to finding out what they had.

The SC2 positive grate under your raccoon dog cage is all I really care about at this point. Plus I am pretty sure Iheard that most of the other SC2 positive environmental swabs were taken the stalls where they sold the live animals. That's a pretty big coincidence - the virus leaked from the WIV precisely all the way to that grate that had just been under a live animal that just happened to be in a market selling wild animals. I predict another move of thegoalposts however - CCP must have planted the samples there.

Completely agree. Balls in WHO's court now.

The DoS materials mention some joint publications. Tell me how that translates to "secret."

The idiots are running loose. And not just Jamie. [shared file(s): Screen Shot 2021-03-23 at 15.19.08.png]

Can somebody please tell me how this is _any_ different from natural emergence? Because it's associated with research activity? A very specific low probability event compared to the alternative scenario... It's so dumb.

Of course Alex is there to give Marc Lipsitch a statistics lecture... Love this guy. [shared file(s): Screen Shot 2021-03-23 at 15.21.05.png]

He's so good
-
He really is - and I mean, a PhD student teaching one of the most prominent statisticians (at Harvard...) the basicsof statistics is pretty, well, ballsy.
-
It's not snarky though - to his credit. It's delivered in a scientific way. Not like the total BS spewed out by a certain Broad Post-Doc [alignment/assembly tweet comes to mind].
-
ballsy>>>snarky
-
I like to do both, although, I probably do snarky more often these days. I think my response to Alina's "alignment<> assembly" was firmly in the latter category

The guy that Pompeo is relying on for his information about WIV is the same guy (Asher) that thinks that pangolinsmated with bats. Jamie is using "information" gathered by Asher and politicized by Pompeo to build all of his littlestraw men.
