Good choice Eddie! I think this is the break we've been waiting for. If we can get Trump to tweet about how "Proximal Origins authors paid off with CCP honeys," we'll be back at #1 on Altmetric in no time. Now all we need isto get the Gnews boys working their photoshop and made-up email magic.

I think that graphic is one to print and frame

On it!

This alignment shows how insertions in three subgenuses of betacoronaviruses generate FCS and predicted O-linked glycans. SARS-CoV-2 is not a "unicorn." [shared file(s): image.png]

That's a nice alignment Bob - yours? Have you looked at the feline coronaviruses too? Some of them have the _exact_ same furin site. E.g., https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/protein/AIL54259.1?report=genbank&log$=prottop&blast_rank=1&RID =T38N3HVE016 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/protein/AIL54258.1?report=genbank&log$=prottop&blast_rank=2&RID =T38N3HVE016 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/protein/AIL54263.1?report=genbank&log$=prottop&blast_rank=3&RID =T38N3HVE016

Yes - I did that but anyone could have. Yes beyond some with the PRRAR the feline coronaviruses have interesting divergence including insertions or predicted O-linked glycans at the S1/S2 junction.

Some of the feline CoVs but not others have a second FCS (also appears due to an insertion) at the S2' cleavage site just upstream of a putative fusion peptide. [shared file(s): image.png]
