[thread - ID: 2021-02-09 03:23:12] Raccoon dogs. That's what my photos were of and what they are interested in. [2021-02-09 04:39:37] [Robert Garry] https://www.telegraph.co.uk/global-health/science-and-disease/coronavirus-news-vaccine-south-africa-variant-quar antine-cases/ [2021-02-09 04:44:07] [Robert Garry] Any competent scientist that does not have a preconceived notion and takes more than a superficial look at the question will come to the same conclusion. [2021-02-09 04:45:34] [Robert Garry] [thread - ID: 2021-02-09 03:23:12] @Eddie Holmes IIRC raccoon dogs were one of @Eddie Holmes go to beasts from the get go. [2021-02-09 04:54:49] [Robert Garry] [thread - ID: 2021-02-09 04:54:49] Don't see how "frozen food" is separate from 1 or 2 - apparently to make their hosts happy. [shared file(s): image.png] [2021-02-09 05:20:15] [Andrew Rambaut] @Robert Garry Any opinion on this: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33556558/ [2021-02-09 05:47:00] [Robert Garry] Quick look - I'll look again in the office. Setting aside the phylogeography (of course) - the additional cleavage is possible. CoVs likely have more than one "fusion" peptide. There is a cysteine bond following the D614G and prior to the FCS - inbetween is one of the aforementioned putative fusion peptides. [2021-02-09 05:52:23] [Andrew Rambaut] We have a new emerging lineage (I may have mentioned it - A.23.1 - it seems widely distributed in Africa, UAE, now Cambodia) that has Q613H P681R (and now, in the UK only, Erik). So would likely be mirroring Doug+Pooh? [2021-02-09 06:54:50] [Robert Garry] Well Q613R showed up in the lion on the Christmas Card, so Q613H/R both adding positive charge. D614G takes away a negative charge. Something going on there for sure. [2021-02-09 07:10:56] [Robert Garry] Following Doug is a disulfide - Disulfide isomerases are important for virus entry - see references 28 and up in this paper.
