That's heartening [2020-12-09 13:20:12] [Kristian Andersen] Aaaaaaahahahahahahahah - A+K+B more influential than the Donald. [shared file(s): Screen Shot 2020-12-09 at 13.19.01.png, Screen Shot 2020-12-09 at 13.19.27.png] [2020-12-09 14:01:14] [Robert Garry] I've never tweeted, but I do have 6 followers. I'm guessing 100% fake. [2020-12-09 14:25:19] [Robert Garry] Kate Rubin going to the moon...https://www.nasa.gov/specials/artemis-team/ [2020-12-09 14:37:11] [Kristian Andersen] No way! So cool. I want to get a Zoom call with her when she's up there - this'll be my mission in life! [2020-12-09 15:46:57] [Kristian Andersen] Wow - this has got to be one of the most idiotic OpEds of the pandemic. https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/12/08/election-is-over-can-we-finally-blame-china-pandemic/ [2020-12-09 19:35:02] [Eddie Holmes] Very, very dumb [2020-12-10 00:53:46] [Eddie Holmes] This is from one of the people at the South China Agricultural University who did that pango 99 stuff. They are good guys, and honest, just a bit naive. Anyway, this is interesting snippet: "BTW, this week, I collected some leopard cats in a place near the village where bat RaTG13 was collected.I detected some gene segments that was highly similar with the bat CoV.It's interesting that these cats may capture bats for food, and infected by the bat viruses naturelly. This would give us some new knowledge about the circulation of bat CoVs.Can you suggest some conserved primers of -CoVs? I will try my best to collect more felids in that region." [2020-12-10 00:59:21] [Andrew Rambaut] It seems highly likely that SARS-CoV-2 went through a carnivore to get to us but I would imagine leopard cats (note to self - seems to be a small cat, not a leopard: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leopard_cat) would not be the one with much human contact. Interesting though if it requires the ACE2 RBD to infect carnivores (i.e., not in RaTG13 but probably in some related bat virus). [2020-12-10 01:15:44] [Eddie Holmes] Agreed. Just great hear about more related viruses. I'll let you know when I hear more. Felids are clearly great hosts.
