P.S. And it's ridiculous to think that scientists can't use their Uni emails when discussing the early stages of a global pandemic. I can't think of anything that is more appropriate for 'business' use than that. Honestly. [2020-08-26 15:31:06] [Kristian Andersen] Yup. The world has truly gone insane. [2020-08-26 17:17:25] [Eddie Holmes] Is that reinfection story bollocks then Kristian? [2020-08-26 17:23:37] [Kristian Andersen] [thread - ID: 2020-08-26 17:23:37] I suspect the first one may be - but the one from the US today looks good. Again, we should totally expect reinfections so none of them are surprising - I just get really fucking grumpy when people talk about what we can learn about COVID immunity and vaccines from n=1 studies (some of which might be false positives). It's just idiotic - we learn exactly nothing! (well, we learn that reinfections are possible - but of course they are - we fucking knew that! We need to know frequency and time dependency before we can say *anything* about immunity/vaccines). [2020-08-26 17:25:17] [Kristian Andersen] I was mostly ticked off by so many people saying "oh, this is totally normal, it's textbook immunology and the case clearly shows that immunity works". Total bollocks - let's hope that's the case, but we just don't know and if reinfections are a frequent occurrence then that _is_ a huge issue from an epidemic control perspective. [2020-08-26 17:26:09] [Eddie Holmes] Agree. n = 1 is ridiculous. [2020-08-26 17:26:30] [Eddie Holmes] Also, the sun: what is good for? [shared file(s): image.png] [2020-08-26 17:27:53] [Kristian Andersen] Aaaaaaahahahahahahahaha, that is AMAZING!!!! Soooo funny! [2020-08-26 17:29:48] [Eddie Holmes] I just hate those quiescent states. So annoying! [2020-08-26 17:30:51] [Kristian Andersen] I know - wtf man! Spewing those viruses our way! Not fair, really not fair. [2020-08-26 17:34:41] [Eddie Holmes] Apparently, the Wuhan Institute of Virology were manipulating sun spots in the lab. Devious fuckers. [2020-08-27 02:02:18] [Andrew Rambaut] [thread - ID: 2020-08-26 17:23:37] @Kristian Andersen I agree. Although the much tighter timeline and some oddities in the genomes make me wonder if it could have been a co-infection with a one variant coming to the fore later on.
