Research Preparedness and Lessons Learned from the Ebola Outbreak

The session will take stock of the challenges encountered in responding to microbial
outbreaks, based on the recent experience with Ebola epidemic. The aim is to understand
generalizable lessons from this response, and explore ways to most effectively address
future outbreaks. Priority topics include:

clinical trial design

implementing clinical trials
•
developing protocols and guidance for research studies in advance
•
sharing of specimens and data, and access to specialized reagents
•
community engagement
•
coordination and real-time, open sharing of information across diverse disciplines
