Bill Gates will personally join our next workshop, to take place Friday, June 2, at the John Porter Neuroscience Research Center on the NIH campus, beginning at 8:30 AM __| will co-chair the meeting with Dr. Trevor Mundel, President of the Global Health Division at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Though I am sure your schedule is packed, we'd be delighted if you could join part or all of the morning session, given the relevance of the topics. Discussion will include: e State-of- the-art developments in global health vaccine R&D , with emphasis on therapeutic vaccines and structure-based immunogen design; e New concepts in cell-phone enabled point-of-care diagnostics, including development of open interface standards, and e Strategies to create a durable network of African sites capable of licensure for standard trials, among other clinical and translational research capacity needs to be addressed by a new partnership called the Coalition for African Research and Innovation. We are finalizing an agenda, which I will share once available, with logistical details. In the interim, I attach the current draft agenda. We have engaged several FDA colleagues in developing the panel session on POC diagnostics, including Alberto Gutierrez. I hope you can make it. Your perspectives would be of great value, and the discussion will give you a close sense of some of the global health product development priorities and pathways pursued jointly by NIH and the Gates Foundation.
