Last night, Stephen Hoge of Moderna explained their booster data using hybrid boosts to a group of us from HHS. The bottom line is that boosting with an omicron together with wildtype bivalent, The response protected against omicron - B.1, but not against BA.4 and BA.5. This has important implications in what decision the FDA and CDC make about what the 4th dose boost should consist of. Should it be an omicron boost or should we steer it towards BA4 and BA5 which does not seem to be protected against by maybe one boost.
