Hopefully, we will bring their miscommunication to an end as they finalize their discussions with the DSMB. • Got a call from Tom Frieden today about 2 issues: 1) Tom wants to know how I feel about working with Moderna in getting them to give up some intellectual property so that we can get vaccine to the developing world . He wants to see if I have a relationship with Moderna. If so, he would like to help with seeing if we can get Moderna to cooperate in building plants in the developing world to provide vaccine. Tom is going to send me some talking points that I might bring to Jeff Zients so that I do not go rogue on this without letting the administration know. 2) Tom is quite concerned that there is no decision yet on the commissioner of the Food and Drug administration. He is very much in favor of Josh Scharfstein over Janet Woodcock. He is trying to figure out ways to get the administration to seriously consider Josh. Apparently Ron Klain is concerned that Josh would have trouble getting confirmed by the Senate. Tom thinks that this is not an issue.
