Had zoom call with Rob Manfred (Commissioner of MLB) and Dan Halem (Deputy
Commissioner). They want to delay opening Spring training from February 17 to March17 and
have a comparable delay in opening day. They want to do this since they feel (rightly so) that
the decreases in cases will be even more pronounced with an additional month and they will be
able to get more of the umpires and players vaccinated with the delay. Of note, Tom Frieden
spoke with the MLB Players Association and the players want to start earlier since it affects their
salaries. Now the Players want to speak with me.
