Dec. 16, 2022 Momentous Day!!! Today we had the ceremony for my "stepping down" at NIH. I chose a simple ceremony with 3 minute speeches by Larry Tabak, Francis Collins, John Gallin, Cliff Lane and Christine. This was followed by a 15 minute Q and A with John Burklow and a concluding speech by me. I thought that I would get through the entire speech without choking up but when I got to the point about Christine, I choked up for about 15 seconds. The ceremony was exactly like I wanted it - no bells and whistles. From the New York Times: Although "vaccine paranoia and Fauci hatred are still niche positions in the electorate at large," if anyone "imagines that replacing Trump with DeSantis as the G.O.P.'s leader would signal a party on its way to becoming sane again is in for a rude shock."
