@niaid nib. gov> To: "Fauci, Anthony (NIH/NIAID) [E]" <AFAUCI@niaid.nih.gov> Ce: "Auchincloss, Hugh (NIH/NIAID) [E]" J Qniaid nib. gov> Subject: update on the status of the HHS Countermeasure review Date: Thu, 14 Jan 2010 13:58:00 -0500 Importance: Normal Tony, Just a quick update on the HHS review (which precipitated your conversation with Heidi Avery). Bear in mind that this review has very ambitious turnaround time with a final report due 3/31/10. There will be an OM Workshop (Feb 11-12) that will provide some input on a subset of the overall objectives. The agenda is still being fleshed out, but will likely examine possible regulatory reforms (specifically to address rapidly emerging public health threats), business incentives, and alternative organizational models (this is Heidi's interests). Gail Cassell is involved from the IOM side. Hugh needs to be aware that there will be a series of National Biodefense Science Board meetings (both telecons and actual meetings) from next month and through March to sort through a series of white papers on various topics being prepared by a contractor for HHS as well as to review the IOM Workshop output. Finally, I wanted to let you know that I learned, part of Heidi's receptivity was due to a series of briefings that Heidi has been receiving from Richard Hatchett and James Lawler (both detailed to the WH for H1N1 issues).
