First, there is ongoing national debate about the adequacy of the data and information relied upon by Dr. Fauci, the NIH, NIAID, CDC, FDA and WHO in adopting their positions on ivermectin. On the one hand, there are numerous public health officials, media outlets, journalists, scientists, public figures, and others with large social media platforms that have declared there's no data showing ivermectin is safe or effective at preventing or treating COVID. The FDA went so far as to discourage individuals from using ivermectin on Twitter because they are not a "horse" or a "cow," despite the fact ivermectin has been safely used as an antiparasitic for humans for decades.41 Others have gone to great lengths to censor scientific data on ivermectin and/or manipulate study results.42 On the other hand, there are highly educated and well-trained scientists, physicians, and public health experts touting the benefits of ivermectin,43 filing lawsuits to obtain access to the drug, physicians who have faced disciplinary action for prescribing ivermectin,44, 45 and critical care doctors who claim ivermectin has reduced mortality rates in the ICU by 50%.46 Given this widespread and ongoing public debate, the medical and scientific community and the public have an immediate need to review the information and data underlying public health recommendations. The NIAID should produce the data and information necessary to address this widespread public debate by immediately producing the information requested in this FOIA request.
