track health around the world. The goal is to provide up-to-date evidence of patterns and trends worldwide. Estimates will be produced at least annually and probably at more frequent intervals to reflect new evidence as it accumulates. An independent review committee chaired by Prof. Peter Piot (London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine) will assess the strengths and weaknesses of different results and methods--particularly to identify opportunities to improve estimates using new data collection and analysis solutions. The review committee will also advise IHME about opportunities for strengthening collaboration and ownership of GBD 2.0, engage in dialogue around other efforts on global health estimates, and formulate guidelines for access to and use of the GBD databases globally, regionally, and nationally. One of the most important challenges for governments and global health funding agencies is to relate investments to results. By creating a comprehensive approach with uniform methods to track health data at the national level, GBD 2.0 will be an invaluable resource for the understanding of whether actions have changed health trends. Other updates Open access policy The foundation is close to adopting an open access publication policy that is consistent with peer organizations, including: e Publications that are discoverable and accessible online. Publications will be deposited in specified repository(s) with proper tagging of metadata. e Publication will be on "Open Access" terms. All publications shall be published under the Creative Commons attribution 2.0 generic license (CC BY 2.0) e Foundation will pay necessary fees. We are in the process of reviewing other aspects related to embargo periods and possible requirements for making the data underlying the published results available as well.
