Hi Sandi-
Just wanted to follow up about finding a time to talk. Looks like between your schedule and mine this month might be tough
for a face-to-face meeting but perhaps we could se up a time to talk by phone.
Bobbi told me that she would deliver one of our MTN Leadership meeting binders to you this week. I do have a short list of
issues to talk about. Probably the most fun is a meeting I have set up with the Gates Foundation at the end of this month to
discuss, among other things, the possible co-funding of our planned trial of oral vs vaginal tenofovir under the MTN. Our
clinical trial sites will have capacity in mid 2008 and we will have to move fast to identify new PIF for this study. My agenda
during the meeting with Gates this time is to briefly outline the MTN and explain what our infratrsucture could provide. I
know that Gates is very interested in such a partnership but needs to understand how the Gates money could flow through
the DAIDS network structures. I am hoping that our follow-up meeting with Gates would include you and John Mellors, who
is the head of our Virology Core and is a major proponent in moving this study forward from the Pittsburgh MTN CORE
team. I was at the OAR yesterday co-chairing the WHIN review with Joe Margolick and had the opportunity to meet briefly
with Jack Whitescarver after we adjourned. He was also enthusiastic about approaching Gates about this and I told him
that I hoped that you could accompany us on our next visit with them.
Have a great weekend, Sandi. Soory for the long email but will try to find a time for us to talk next week.
